Litigation and Dispute Resolution.

Fixed Fee Work not by the Hour.

Mulligan Lawyers is a fixed fee legal firm for all matters. Especially in commercial litigation most law firms charge by the hour. The standard hourly rate for a senior lawyer is between $400 and $450/hour by GST. When you sign a costs agreement and pay by the hour firms will charge in 6-minute increments. Therefore, every billable unit will cost between $40 and $45 every 6 minutes. In other words, a 7-minute phone call can cost $90 plus gst.

We pride ourselves on working with clients for a result as opposed to the time spent. All our costs agreements will provide a completely fixed price in all stages of litigation. Don’t pay by the hour, pay by the result.

We also do a lot of the court attendance work. If we brief a barrister we work on the fixed fee policy and find barristers who will agree on a fixed fee for the work.

Dispute Resolution in a cost effective and fair way is the goal.

In practically all litigation matters lawyers have a duty to try and resolve issues in a time and cost-efficient matter. In Victoria, the Civil Procedure Act provides a legislative obligation on lawyers to do exactly this. If there is no merit in a claim it should not be pursued otherwise there will be cost consequences.  Just because you have a legal issue does not mean it will necessarily go to court. We seek to resolve matters with private mediators or by direct correspondence with other parties in order to avoid unnecessary legal costs.
